Two qualifying individuals residing at the same address. Together they receive access to the Members-Only Website (if an e-mail address is provided), one copy of the WSGS Newsletter and other mailings, and each has one vote.
Any Wisconsin-based genealogical or historical membership society, or the like, may be granted affiliate membership upon application. Affiliated Societies will be entitled to the WSGS Newsletter and to one vote. Additionally, they may identify themselves as, "An Affiliate of the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society," on their communications, publications, Website and advertising.
Affiliates of the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society receive the following benefits:
- WSGS monitors budget and legislative proceedings at the state level concerning raising fees for vital records, the availability of records, and other issues of concern to the Wisconsin genealogical community, as well as representing our members and the members of Affiliated Societies in testimony before the Legislature.
- A vote in the election of WSGS Board members.
- The WSGS Newsletter.
- Up to three members of an Affiliated Society may attend Society Leaders Workshops at a reduced rate.
- One member of an Affiliated Society may attend WSGS conferences at the member rate, even if they are not a WSGS member.
- Publication of Affiliate events on the online WSGS Events Calendar by notifying the WSGS Webmaster of them.
- A link from the WSGS Affiliates web page to the Affiliates website.
- Mention of the society's name, address, and website address in the syllabus of each WSGS conference.
Libraries, archives, and other genealogical or historical societies not based in Wisconsin may subscribe to the WSGS Newsletter. This is a subscription only, not a membership, and therefore comes without membership or voting privileges.
See the Attachments section below for the Membership Application and Affiliate Membership Application forms.
Other Options
Newsletters are normally sent by standard rate mail at a considerable savings to the Society and its members. Standard rate mail is not forwardable, so it is important that you notify the WSGS office promptly of any mailing address change, even if temporary. There is a $4.00 service fee for remailing of any newsletter issue returned by the USPS because it is undeliverable as addressed. If you move frequently, please consider the First-Class Mail option, which will make your newsletter issues forwardable and insure that you receive them in a timely manner.

What does it mean to be "Wisconsin-based"? Is this an issue of where a society gets its postal mail? Does it exclude societies with a primary interest based on ethnic issues rather than settlement in a particular Wisconsin area?
Do you find this valuable?
